14 Weeks Pregnant: What’s happening with You & Your Baby?

You are now 14 Weeks Pregnant!

Your Baby

14weeksAt 14 weeks pregnant, your baby is developing fast. Now he or she has fingerprints and their neck is complete. They weight around one to two ounces (50 grams) and is approximately 3 & ½ inches long (9 cm).

He will start to look a little more ‘human’ this week as his body lengthens and starts to catch up with his head size, his ears will move around to the sides of the head and his eyes will move closer together.

If you are very sensitive to movement you may start to feel some fluttering as your baby starts to move around the amniotic fluid, however many people don’t feel this until around the 20th week, so don’t worry if you can’t feel anything yet.

You

14weeks2At 14 weeks pregnant you might start noticing that your clothes are getting a little tight and you look a little heavier around the tummy. It could be a good time now to invest in some early pregnancy clothing because over the next few weeks you’ll start to grow but probably won’t quite be ready for maternity clothes.

Your cravings will start to pick up now, which can be a good or bad thing (depending on what you crave!) Take notice of what you want to eat to see if it’s healthy or not. It’s important to keep a healthy diet all throughout your pregnancy to keep both you and yourself in optimum health.

On the flipside to cravings, you might now find that some foods that you used to love no longer have the same appeal. In fact some foods can make you down right nauseous if you smell them. It’s said that over 85% of pregnant women have at least one food that they can’t stand now (which they previously had no problem with).

You might even find that you start to get constipated more frequently since your iron levels will be increased. If that is the case then increase the amount of water that you drink and make sure you include a lot of high fibre foods in your diet.

Also reaching 14 weeks pregnant means that you are officially in the second trimester. Your energy levels should start to increase again and your nausea should go down over the coming weeks and this will be the trimester that you’ll feel the best you can be. Around now many people start to tell friends that they are pregnant and share the good news.
